Is America REALLY "The Land of Opportunity?"?!

Question: I seem to think so. After all, if Soulja Boy can get a record deal, I guess ANYTHING is possible, right?!

Don't tell me how it was so much better 100 years ago because it wasn't. As female 100 years ago, I'd be completely under my husband's thumb, unable to vote, unable to own land, unable to have a career, unable to control the amount of children I bore, and unable to complete the level of education that I desired. Non-whites had almost NO opportunities and definitely did not have rights equal to those that a white man had.

On top of that, if you were unemployed (like my grandfather was throughout most of the Great Depression), there were no checks coming in until you got a job again. Your husband (and sole provider) is killed due to a work accident, like my great-grandfather in 1909, don't expect survivors' benefits or anything like that because it wasn't around. If you don't have anything to eat, you better start picking through the garbage because food shelves did not exist 100 years ago.

So, please, enough with the whining. We could all be living in some place like North Korea or Myanmar of Afghanistan.

LOL, but if you want the opportunity to get oil for a greedy president and risk your life in the process sure

Not as much as it was 100 years ago, im sad to say.....or maybe thats what were telling the mexicans so theyll stop immigrating illegally.

It used to be .... but now we are so damn worried about being politically correct and all that garbage that these things have taken over and are more important to most people.

More like "The Land of Opportunists".

Absolutely. We're guaranteed the right to the 'pursuit of happiness'; which we most certainly have. You can be as successful as you want to work hard. If you don't make it - it's your own fault.

lol.It used to be but I don't think it is anymore.

Yes it is, don't listen to the rest, some are rednecks trying to kick off immigrants (oh hell, I'm gonna be hunted for this)

But before moving in, do some heavy research such as where you're moving, the employment rate in the area etc.

hit the department of labor's website, and look for the stat data.(usually in PDF format).. or go the specific state's DOL website .. then you get info for each counties ..

Good luck!!

PS : Don't move in illegally, and don't be a lazy *** worker.

It does seem so to us Indians. Maybe because of the impression we get from the movies or because the dollar rate is higher than the rupee. But if he can make it, it must be.
