Would a deaf person with Torette's syndrome give you the finger a lot?!

Question: Just wondering.

I have yet to meet someone with that disease and I sometimes chuckle about it... but then I got to thinking..... what if that person was deaf and used sign language. Would they just give the finger a lot?

(not making fun of deaf people... just trying to think here)

I'm not sure, but that is a very good question though. When I saw Debi had starred your question i opened it up and about died laughing. I feel awful about laughing at soemthign liek that but you pose a very very valid point. They can't shout out the typical things a person with that would so would they gesture it or does their mind make them spell it out using sign language??? this shoudl definately bring interesteing answers. I also understand that not all people with tourettes swear. They have other "tics" my mth teacher in high school had it and he would chatter his teeth at regular intervals and sometimes he would just start making this coughing choking sound, I have OCD so I can understand to an extent about the disease.... While OCD is compleetly diffretn in many ways from what I have read it's very similar. Like I said earlier I hate that I laughed when I read your question but it was put into a slightly amusing concept:)

i think they can because they cant control their body

Yes

only if they are mute lmao

i would assume so i like your thinking

yep...then they bag their hands...it's sad really lol

If were the deaf person....Yes.

Not everybody, but definitely you. A lot. Every chance they got.

i do and i do not have torette's

Despite your assurances, your question is probably offensive to both the deaf and those with Tourettes. You should find a more benign hobby.

no! it doesnt work the same

You don't know much about Tourette's, do you? D:

Oh man that's funny!

I want to laugh but I guess I should not you **^&&^(*& Up your )(*@$ You rotten $(#^&$). Maybe though. ARRRP ARRRP

most likely.

what about a deaf mute with tourette's syndrome? theyd give you all kinds of symbols.

Sure... why not? Don't forget that people with Tourette's can also have other ticks.

Well now you've "met" someone with this "disease." And I hope you're not chuckling about it, because having Tourette's is certainly not something I smile about everyday.

I met a person that had it. I was too young to know that he had a disease. I thought his inside thoughts were leaking outside. Sometimes a little kids perception is dead-on.

Tourette Syndrome causes a lot of involuntary actions, not just sounds.

if you asked me that question I would definitely give you the finger

Gilles de la Tourette syndrome is a nervous system disorder which causes a person to make repeated and involuntary movements and sounds (vocalizations) called tics. The disorder is commonly called Tourette syndrome.

Contrary to popular belief, use of socially inappropriate words or phrases (coprolalia) occurs in only a minority of patients.

Being deaf doesn't necessarily make the person mute also.

So no, a deaf person with Gilles de la Tourette syndrome would not necessarily give the finger a lot.

Tourette's is a neurological disorder that is characterized mainly by physical tics. Most people who have Tourette's disorder do not have coprolalia (the uncontrolled swearing) so a deaf person with Tourette's would probably not be much different than a hearing person with the same disorder.

You should say "Not making fun of deaf people and people with tourettes"

I have OCD and I know people with Tourette's.

Its not just about shouting out swear-words. Its about having impulses we can't control. My friend has to flick his head whenever he meets someone new. Its just an un-controlable impulse.

He never swears. He makes this funny chattering noise, and sometimes a throaty cough like noise (usually when were eating sweet foods)

Perfectly normal.

I'm not flaming on you, I just want people to know that toureetes isn't a disorder that makes you swear. If oyu don't know any swearwords, you won't swear. Its about not being able to control impulses, like a sneeze.

Maybe, but so could a hearing person with Tourette's. Tourette's doesn't always mean that a person can't stop swearing. That's actually a very rare version.

In Tourette's, the person has certain things – called 'tics' – that they have a compulsion to do. They have at least one physical movement, like blinking their eyes or stomping their foot. They also have at least one verbal tic, but usually that will be something like repeating a syllable or two over and over again (like "ba ba ba ba ba") or sometimes repeating what they or someone else just said. Random cursing is only the most famous because it's the most shocking to other people, not because it's common.

Tourette's is, as I'm sure you know, a neurological problem, not a behavioral problem. People with it can try to resist the urge to perform their tics, but will be very uncomfortable until they do it. There are medications that can help to relieve the problem, but it is equally important for people who know someone with Tourette's to remember that it's not their fault, and they're not doing it on purpose.

Possibly, but not in the way you mean. Not all people with Tourette's swear, for one; that's just a common misconception. Very few people with it actually swear. Most just blink or clear their throats, or have other such tics. Coprolalia (involuntary swearing) is only present in about 15% of people with Tourette's. So would some people with Tourette's flick people off? Probably. But would they do it because they're deaf? No.

Actually, they would give you BOTH of the fingers a lot.

You wrong for that lakisha. OMG
