Have you given up on trying to get your dog to stop eating its own po-opie???!

Question: I would love to know what exactly makes a dog eat his or her own poopie. My sister recently got a shitzu puppie, she's about 9 months now, and this is the first dog I've actually witnessed eating poop. Not only does she eat her own (a sick way of recycling), but she also eats our other dog's as well.

We have a lot of wild rabbits in the yard, and she digs up their poop and eats it as well. So...she's eating a variety of digested material. Here's a funny story:

My older dog was in the backyard, and she was in the position of pooping...and the shitzu, I guess she was curious about it coming out, or she wanted to go straight to the source, and she snuck right under and some poop landed on her head. She didn't even realize it was on her head until my sister calls me, and asks, "What's that thing on her head?"

I look at it...I can certainly SMELL the rankness of it, and I'm flabbergasted to know that my shitzu has turned into a poopie head, and here I thought that was just a figure of speech! Instead of trying to wash it out, my sister grabbed the scissors.....we got all of it out.

So I guess, in essence, we even tried that powder you get from the vet's, that hasn't worked either....yeah, we've given up. lol We're just hoping she grows out of it..and it's only a phase.

If you can't beat 'em......... join 'em.

Seriously though, my dog does that and I don't think I can stop it. I just don't let her lick my face anymore.

Yes. I have recently started calling him "the dog with the breath of many anuses"
since he eats not only his own, but that left in the back yard by anything...
He is a nasty, disgusting, yet incredibly sweet dog.
Of course he is sweet.
His breath smells like sh*t.

My dog thinks the cat's litter pan is the canine version of a box of Godiva chocolates. Man, do I hate that!

When I got the dog a new rule was added to my life's list. Kiss nothing that eats crap and licks its own butt.

Yes, although its gross, Im not sure what else to do. I have tried everything from the bitter apple, to peppers on it. I just gave up.
