Does a positive attitude, (going into Surgery) increase the chances of recovery?!

Question: I'm also asking for Prayers from my Cousin. She's having complicated Surgery on Thursday.

Answers: I'm also asking for Prayers from my Cousin. She's having complicated Surgery on Thursday.

I definitely think a positive attitude will increase the chance of a speedy recovery. Patients with a positive attitude are more likely to get out of bed quick after surgery (per dr's orders) instead of laying still and letting pneumonia set in. They have a "nothing's gonna get me down" mentality. I wish nothing but the best for your cousin!

A good doctor increases the chances of recovery.

Will pray for your cousin and your family, God Bless

Good luck to your cousin,I hope all goes well.

yea it dose i should know ive been through alot

yes, it has been proven that positivity does increase the chances of recovery or the extent to which you recover.

It certainly can't hurt. And I'll say a prayer for your cousin.

I would say yes...a positive attitude through any situation can help...G>l

absolutely a positive attitude helps with recovery. Tell her to keep her chin up and she'll feel better one day at a time- it WILL pass. Also proven is that people with faith recover more quickly.

I believe it does and I also said a prayer for your cousin.

Absolutely, I know it does. Yes, I will.

No,

but making sure you don't get a staph infection will increase your chances of recovery. The surgery usually won't kill you, the staph infection you get will.

While studies are not great on this subject, it is assumed that a positive attitude leads to better healing because you are not as stressed or releasing chemical that would impede progress.

However, studies have shown that people who are prayed for actually do worse. The flaw in the study was the person being prayed for did not know. If they did, they might have a good attitude and heal better.

Mind over matter. It is a psychological tenet at this point.

Yes, my daughter had life saving surgery 4 yrs ago, and if it wasn't for mine and her dads support in being positive I don't think she would have made it. She was in very bad shape going in, almost lost her 3 times but she pulled through with our positive outlook and support.

yep, positive attitude and encouragement.
Prayers are heading her way.....

any time a person is sick or going thru anything major like that, it is best to be positive...being fearful, etc. makes blood pressure rise and the heart to beat irregularly.

yes it does and faith in God. The Lord is in control.

I read an article in a magazine that said a good positive attitude can help fight cancer cells and I'll be praying for your cousin too

Absolutely. I had knee surgery (my first surgery ever) about three months ago. I was in extreme pain because they broke my tibia, realigned it, and placed two screws in. I was really upset and my doctor talked to me. Once he did that, I started trying to have a positive attitude. I told myself that I WOULD get through it and feel better. Now, I can walk without pain. It helped so much to have a positive attitude and encouraged me to make the decision of having my other knee operated on. I'm sure she'll be fine, and I'll pray for her. =)
