Would you get annoyed if people kept thinking you were of a different race?!

Question: I work with the public on a daily basis and I always have people asking me if I'm of a certain race, which I'm not....some of them even assume it and start talking to me in that language and I'm like...I don't understand. Some of the ethnicities people have thought I belong to include Italian, Indian, Pakistani, Greek, Arab, Hispanic, Phillipino, Portuguese, and Mexican...
I guess it's because I have an olive skin tone, but I just wanted to know what you thought of this situation that I deal with everyday?

No, I would just answer "yes" to them all since race really doesn't matter.
example:
"Hey..are you..Indian?"
you answer:
"Why yes, I am from Calcutta."
The next person asks
"Excuse me, mind if I ask..are you Mexican?"
You answer:
"Yes. I am from TJ."

and so on and so forth.

People ask me all the time too, and always guess wrong.

no I dont think it would

How could you mix Indian and Mexican....weird..

No, it doesnt annoy me. I dont mind it. Especially if its complimentary

no.

so what race are you of?

and no it doesn't bother be, people think I'm jewish because of my nose. :)

a lot of people think i'm indian.. i guess it's because i am.

would you look at yourselft and honestly not think the same?

Who cares there are more important things to be annoyed about.

No, I would just correct them.

I don't get bothered by it. Yes, I do get ask if I am a certain race (Spanish)- and do have people approach me and start talking to me in Spanish. But, I am part Native American (my great grandmother was full blooded). I don't find it annoying though.

So far, I've always been recognized as a member of the human race. But if I keep gaining weight, I'll be mistaken for a bovine pretty soon!

You sound hot.

No, I would not get annoyed. Wait, yes I probably would. Im easily annoyed by repeating the same thing again and again and again and again.

I'll bet you would find the new DNA test they offer for 300 dollars interesting. They don't tell you what you think you are, they tell you what you are genetically. Many people have been surprised.

When people ask "what are you?" answer them with one word............

beatiful

no, i find humor in that kind of stuff......people are funny.

It doesn't really annoy me.
Do you mind telling us what race you belong to?

Not really. I am half black and half American Indian and people never know because over the phone everyone thinks that I am Caucasian. When people meet me in person, some will actually ask because I have medium toned skin and straight black hair. It really doesn't bother me, I just tell them I am mixed or I am a mutt. And there is nothing more lovable than a mutt!!!

Being Italian I go through this alot. I just let them know that I am Italian-American and don't speak anything but english.

yes I would be annoyed. My friend has dark hair and skin. When we go shoppping or to dinner people will just start speaking spanish to her! Shes from Idaho and is like "I have no Idea what you just said!". talk about putting their foot in their mouth though, I bet they dont do that again for a while!

I am multiracial so that is moot point with me.I don't CARE what people think of me.

My wife gets annoyed quite a bit sometimes. She is part Cherokee so she has an olive color to her skin. She is mistaken for Hawaiian, Mexican, Polynesian and middle eastern, but hardly anybody thinks native American.

Nah. I have the same issue but I don't get annoyed. I'm half black and Filipino. I get the some of same assumptions as you do except.....Filipino. Weird. Mostly people assume I'm hispanic or Polinesian. When people start talking to me in Spanish I usually say "excuse me" and they get the picture. If the conversation continues for a longer period of time I might slip in a few spanish phases in just to confuse them even further. My Spanish is actually pretty good.

Deac

OMG! I hear ya! People always think I'm Native American or Hispanic!!!

Just to let you know, I am Hawaiian, Filipino, Chinese, Japanese, French, German, and Norweigian... sorry if the latter is not spelled correctly!!!

Hang in there! Lol.

That happens to me. Everyone thinks I'm a mixture of everything -- I joke around with my friends that I represent the world lol. It used to bother me a lot, like why can't people tell what I am? My parents are of the same ethnic background but everyone always assumes I'm half Mexican, Indian, Arab, African... I've gotten 'em all! And then people coming up to you speaking their native language, yet all you can say is, "Nope sorry, I'm not ________." It gets old.

But in the end, you know what you are :) And if people ask, well they're just curious. It does get pretty annoying but I guess there are worse things than being asked your ethnic background is, right? lol

no - but if you go by the recent National Geographic Genographic study we all descended from africans about 60 thousand years ago which pretty much means we'd all be a part of a mixed background sooooo

with that in mind I'd just say "maybe I am but I'm not aware of that part of my history yet" It's usually what I say followed but my background includes italian, irish and a little bit more ...
