In general no. I work with a bunch of them and they have ruined it for me.

As a species, No. Individually, sometimes.
I find far too many are on power trips and routinely abuse their authority. BTW, stopping a woman to look at her legs up close is an abuse but things like that happen every day. Add to that the fact that most Cops would much rather harass a harmless citizen than confront a dangerous criminal and the picture is complete.
Individuals, off the job can sometimes be OK to be around. But, in all honesty, even they are eventually ruined by the system. They may actually become good cops but no matter what happens they are no longer people.
It may be difficult to believe but I have found Correctional Officers to be worse than front line Cops. In all fairness, they do deal with those convicted of crimes and seldom interact with real people. CO's adopt a attitude of directing convicts and that attitude spills over into their civilian live in a matter of weeks or at most months.
The cops don't respect my rights as a tax payer, Why should I like them. I will play the stupid game of, Yes officer or no officer if they pull me over. But I don't trust them at all. They are nothing more then bully's in uniform with the power to ruin people lives for nothing.
