Yes my old psychology lecturer used to work down the pit (I'm in Yorkshire) but when they all closed in the 80s he went to university and became a senior lecturer in psychology. He said he still went to the pub every weekend and old work colleagues wouldn't even speak to him anymore because they thought that HE thought he was above them. Also another friend had enjoyed great relations with his neighbours for 10 years until he bought his council house and then no one would speak to him. Strange.

Is your idea of UP the same as everybody else's idea of up?
Do you mean up some career or other ladder, where so many are trampled and left at the bottom?
Do you mean you've been able to buy more stuff?, following that rediculous cornerstone of capitalism which proclaims "the more things you have - the happier you will be"?
Do you mean you have moved up to become a better more considerate person?
Perhaps when your friends are trying to pull you "down" they are really pulling you away from the undesirable direction which they see you are going in.
Perhaps they are, after all, friends.

erm...soemtimes, depends if ur friends are the jealous type. i dont like having jealous ppl as my friends. Its sick what they can do. Bad intentions and stuff and always want attention to themselves and no one should be better than them yuck! they are not friends if they pull u down coz tehy dont want good for you and dont have a heart of gold or a big heart. forget em. u can have better friends around if i were u.
