POLL - Why is the EXACT SAME stuff cheaper in Argos than places like H Samuel??!

Question: Economies of scale. Buy in bulk, they pay a lower price, so pass that on to the consumer. Lower overhead means they don't have to tack on more to the price to cover those costs.

because argos dont pay for fancy shops and displays

i'm not sure. but i'm not complaining my watch cost loads less cos it was half price as well

Because H Samuel is classy!

They buy it in bigger quantities, sell it cheaper but by far more volume.....phew

Probably because they buy in bulk for a greater discount and store the stock in their warehouses - and if it goes out of season/ style it goes on sale at a discounted rate. That's my guess, anyway

It's what the market will stand. People perceive goods in a jewellers as being more valuable than those in a catalogue shop. You can pay even less on eBay and even more in Harrods.

Because Argos can afford to buy in bulk and have no fancy shop displays.

No idea

you are paying for a name thats all

Cos it ain't never in stock in Argos, they just use the pictures to fill up their catalogue

Because there diffrent companies and you normally pay more in jewlers thn cataloge shops as they are more classy and are kitted out better. so u minght as well go for the argos.

Because Argos buy and sell millions of items whereas H Samuels only sell thousands. Argos advertise extensively wheras H Samuel don't. Less people therefore know about and buy their products. Also the overheads of a mail order warehouse are much less than those of the fancy high street stores operated by traditional retailers. Overall it is described by the economic term "economies of scale".

poll... why is the EXACT samt stuff EVEN CHEAPER in warren james jewlers than ARGOS or H M SAMUEL????

its tru :-)

they buy in bulk and work on a smaller `mark up`

because Argos is better advertised than h,Samuel's,
and they have a better catalogue.
merry Christmas to you all.

The larger a retailer is the cheaper they can buy stock from the wholesalers. Therefore they can sell items cheaper to the customer. A large retailer will still make a bigger profit on a item sold cheap then a small retailer selling the same item more expensive. This is often the reason why small retailers can not survive and have to close down when a larger retailer opens a shop near them.
