What does it mean to "Live On Command"?!

The way I am taking that is..it means you live your life in constant ready for a command....and when it comes, by god, you'd better be ready. I am meaning it almost in a military way, but it can also happen commonly...like a woman obeying her husbands every order or vice versa.
to me that means living how your partner wants you to.
