Hardwood is better because carpets attract dust mites and other sneaky creatures. You can polish wood with Swedish oils and creams and it will shine.

I love hardwood. A nice dark hardwood, like ebony....Very decorative...
Bare floors with a decorative tile is really sexy...errm... nice, too!!!
flip a coin...but it doesn't matter for me...I'm very good at polishing both:)....

Definately hardwood...looks nice with a little area rug...as long as the area rug isn't TOO big.
