I have to get an MRI next week. Are they scary?!
Question: I am 14. I have never had an MRI. I have been having major headaches for about 2 weeks and my doctor recomended having one done. What do they do when you have an MRI? Have you ever had one?
Oh yeah. I hate breathing in small spaces where air comes back and hits my face. When I am in small spaces it is like I can't breathe if I wanted to. One of my friends told me that was not good if I was going to have an MRI. What do you think?

I had 2 a few years ago. I do not like small spaces either. Its not that bad. They told me to bring a CD and they let me listen to music the entire time. It is very loud, and the music helps to drown out some of the sound. They also gave me a button to push if I needed out. I didnt use it, but it was nice to know it was there. Also, they can give you a sedative to help relax you. I didnt get one, but kinda wish I had. Sometimes they put an IV in with some kind of dye, but I didnt have that. Mine took about 20 minutes. If you are really nervous, ask your doctor if they can give you something to relax you, and ask if you can listen to music during it. I just laid there with my eyes closed the entire time. It wasnt a great experience, but I can think of worse things to have done. Good luck!
Yeah, if you're claustrophobic it may be a bit uncomfortable for you.
It can be a little scary if you have claustrophobia. I've had 2 and actually fell asleep during one. They aren't that bad. You'll be fine.
they aren't scary...but you might want to tell them that you are a little claustrophobic...
they are really loud though!
It's not that small. I've had one done before. Piece of cake. Just lie absolutely still.
It's a breeze except they keep those rooms so cold. Ask for a blanket if you are. You just have to stay very still. I almost fell asleep during mine so don't worry. I have claustrophobia too and this is nothing like that. I don't know why your friend said that.
When I had an MRI my doctor prescribed me a valium and I ended up falling asleep. You'll be ok, they arent that bad.
My mom had one done about 2 weeks ago. She's really claustrophobic too. She said she just closed her eyes as she was goin in and didn't open um until they said it was over, which she said took no time at all. She was pretty nervous about it and said it was nothing compared to what she had built up in her head. You'll be fine, just close your eyes and go to your "happy place" and it will be over before you know it! :)
