Why can't we have our cake AND eat it! Or make our beds AND lie in them!?!
Question: At home if I make a cake I generally eat it and I always lay in my bed after making it too! In fact its the best time to lay in it when its fresh!

I usually eat the cake while lying in the bed, and then let my wife make as I hate dealing with cake crumbs.
If you eat your cake, then you don't have it any more. If you lie in your bed, then it is not made anymore.

ok so that saying isn't right for you.
but you might gain more by trying to understand the real meaning of it.
after you eat the cake (or even part of it) you don't have a whole (beautiful) cake anymore.
lying in your bed messes it up. there are wrinkles when you get up. you have to make it again to have it perfect.
try to see the basic truth that is in that saying.
disproving it or proving that you are right is not helpful to anyone.
Because once you've eaten a peice of your caake it's only a portion left.... and i lie in my made up bed. Is this a joke ?

It's ok to lay on the bed but its bad to lie on the bed.
The references are a bit more complex than that.
When you try to cheat on your partner and expect your partner to stay with you and just live with the cheating, that is having your cake and eating it too. You are expecting to have the entire cake without repercussions. This is not as great as making a chocolate cake and eating a piece.
When you do something that makes you and others uncomfortable, you cannot run away from your actions. Therefore you made your uncomfortable bed, now it is your obligation to lay in it. Not as nice as getting into the fresh bed you described.

By all means, if you know how to make it, you can enjoy it or them....But you know, there is one at least you cannot do but you can enjoy it, and if you force yourself to do it, you will surely not enjoy it....try to think what is it?
