What Is Your Opinion Of Gastric Bypass Surgery?!

Question: Would you consider it if necessary? Opinions?

Answers: Would you consider it if necessary? Opinions?

I had it done over 23 years ago in Cardston Alberta, Canada
Couldn't have done it any other way, BUT EVERYONE TAKES TO IT DIFFIDENTLY!!!
As I know 20 other people who have had this kind, plus other weight operation /s.
Now today it's done by laser:
- Faster healing time
- shorter hospital stay
- less chance /s of getting infections
Remember :
- in any surgery there are risk.
- This method is only a band-aide (you can in time gain back weight, if not careful, and change your habits)
- Prepared for a change in your whole new way of thinking.
People have lost : Marriages, and have had serious health problems, however just being over weight is a health problem.
Always do your research first, and please include your loved ones in this decision.
My personal opinion; I would go talk to others who have had this operation, before entering into a no turn back situation.

Yea. IF NECESSARY. If it can be helped by exercising and eating right on my own...THEN THAT'S THE WAY I WOULD GO.

I think it should be considered as a last resort option......

Ye, I would. My mom had it done years ago and she looks and feels great and has done very well.

I would rather exercise the weight away. I say this because I have a fear of being on the operating table.

I think it is necessary in morbidly obese people. I think that a select few can actually lose weight using diet & exercise. Most people cannot, and by that, I mean people with more than 50 lbs to lose. Yes, it can be done, but as I said before, it is only a few that are able to do it and keep it off. With that said, I would definitely caution anyone considering surgery. I know someone who did it, and she really regrets it. She has had so many health problems related to the operation. She wishes she had done it the old-fashioned way, with diet & exercise. Personally, I would try the surgery because I am overweight and have health issues, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. The surgery can kill you, but my health problems will eventually anyway!

been there done that NEVER AGAIN Im still on disabilty its been over 20 yrs ago at u of Alberta hosp.Wish I would have been stronger and went to the gym instead.

I think if you choose that path you do need to do the therapy. The failure rate is pretty high, eventually you can adjust your system to take on more food. The therapy is to figure out the reason for the overindulging in the first place. Even most people who diet exercise and lose weight regain, and it's probably due to the fact that it's hard to reset what's on your mind. If you grew up that it's a comfort food for the sad times, or reward food for the moments, you hold those thoughts. It can cause health trouble because of the limits, foods you shouldn't eat, vitamins to supplement, etc. It's not a fast easy fix if you're not willing to commit to the Dr's orders

I am a fat lady, and I know how hard it is to lose weight, so yes I would consider it, it has done so much for really large people.....

If it was necessary I would consider it.But most of the people that Ive seen have the surgery have eventually gained all of their weight back.I guess you just have to have the determination to fight the addiction and cravings...
