Why in the south everything is "coke"?!

Why in kentucky.. when you ask for sweet ice tea... you have to put your own sweetener in it?? LOL
I don't know what part of south you are referring to... most southerners have a reference of "cola" not "coke" as meaning a freshening soda pop.. which comes in many varieties as in regular cola, orange cola and so on... If you are referring to coke is the only thing they drink, this would be incorrect.
I have yet to find a restaurant in Kentucky that serves "grits"... and rarely can I find a restaurant in Kentucky that serves Pepsi... I am forced to drink coke which I can't stand!!
All these differences in states and even the differences of the cities in the same state is called.. diversity diversity diversity.. Which is a great thing because you get to see how other people live and learn their lingo and it can sometimes really make you appreciate where you come from...

Good question, we say "What kinda coke you want?" Strawberry coke, orange coke, or coke coke?
Same reason all tissues are Kleenex and all lipbalm is Chapstick. It's just the way we are!
Well, here in Atlanta we are home to Coca Cola's operation. BUT....I say....PEPSI please! It is bizarre, I have friends who work for Coke and if it is found out or seen that they have imbibed Pepsi, they are fired. Gee, I sure miss Chicago!
