Is a 4 1/2 year old child still considered an infant? Did I miss something back !

Nah. Young child, yes, but I always thought a miniature human stopped being an infant once they learned how to walk, and then became a toddler. And once they can speak clearly about 75% of the time, that's when they are designated "child"...

yes, an infant is just a young child. In the UK, as someone else has said, we go to infant school till we are about 5 or 6.
Other answers have suggested using the term toddler, but that's less accurate because they're only actually 'toddling' up to about 3 or 4, then they're walking normally.
