Poll: Is it pointless or a good idea?!

Question: Is it pointless or a good idea for someone to ask you what you want for Christmas? It's one thing to make a Christmas list and put three or four things that you want on that list. But my mother and brother have flat out asked me what I am getting them, and what I wanted for Christmas. What's the point? Isn't the idea for it to be kind of a surprise?

It is a matter of preference, the idea is to give to the ones you care about. If you rather have a surprise as a gift, just let them know that.

i personally like surprises!!

Good idea for sure!

I would rather have a $10 dollar gift card to a place where I will actually use it than a $50 gift I hate.

good idea, so they dont get me a crappy gift i have to return.

I hate knowing and I hate people asking. When my older kids ask, I simply say --- I'm not telling.

yea it is suppose to be a surprise... just ignore them

MeRrY ChRIsTmAs! --hugs, and kisses-- xoxo

its better than gettin them something they dont want

pointless

if they can afford it, then its not pointless but if they cant then yes(yes, and no)

i can't get nothing for christmas.

hmm good point it is supposed to be a surprise i think or i thought it was.

ya!

i agree with you. the point of giving the gifts is it to be a surprise....but i wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2008. Hope you get all the things you want.

That's why I say we should stop buying presents for eachother and just go on our own little shopping sprees and then just use the holiday to spend time together! and show off our new gifts for ourselves! at least we'll know we like them!

Ahhh, you're growing up at last............

so they know roughly what you want. Its better then getting something you wouldnt use. x

Yes, suprise is half the fun, but let them tell you exactly what ot get them. Then when they ask what you want, say "suprise me" and then when you get the suprise and they know what they have, they might get the point!

pointless, the person should just make a list

i like surprise but if the gifts r bad then i would b lik i should have just wrote down wat i wanted!

Sure the surprise is Interesting but enjoying the surprise is even more Interesting.

Surprises should be left for birthdays, alot of Christmas gifts end up in the return department.

I think it depends on the person. I like being surprised! I hate telling people what I "want" for Christmas.

I guess it's all just a preference of the person!

They shouldn't be asking what you got them!

Their just excited for Christmas to come :]

I guess it depends... If there is one or two things that you realy really really want then it is a great idea. but if you really don't have anything in mind and don't really care it is pointless

Of course it's a good idea, I want to make sure they get something they'd like and not something that will just sit in their closet. Just have them list a few things so that there can still be a surprise to it.

I have decided that it's a good thing to give the others some ideas. But I would never tell them what I got. Sometimes we give out limits so no one goes overboard.

suppose to be surprised.. my mother in law asked me what i would like and i told her i cant answer that i just told her holidays are for the kids and im grateful for that!
I really feel uncomfortable when im asked what do I want, i feel rude if i make a suggestion cause what ever it is im sure its more than what i had to begin with! xoxo

It's pointless. but I always ask people what they want for Christmas so I know what NOT to get them, so it will be a surprise. but most of the time I get them what they want and a surprise gift as well :)

To me it is. I like surprises, but some people get really hung up on this thing they want... I usually don't have a list. I also buy things because I observe people, and I get them something they like... It keeps you guessing, knowing already is kind of borring for me.. I guess I am a thrill seeker, but hey! At least I live.!

The whole question is pointless.
