Seems like there isn't much you can do other than try your best to get him back! You only have one life-- do everything you can to enjoy it! If this person is that special to you, make sure you never lose them. No excuses! Just go for it!
If you want to become happier, exercise. Exercising releases chemicals that make you feel happy and content, and you'll have done something productive and will keep your mind off of things. You'll feel great from the chemicals and great because you're taking care of yourself, and you'll sleep like a log from all the work you did.
Or distract yourself with hobbies, friends, loud music, and action movies. Action and comedy movies are great at tearing your mind away from the world instantly.

Just remember all the fun times you have had with your buddy., and that you have had the chance to have him as a friend
Do a liquor store run. Watch some comedy movie (Superbad) and drink heavily.
Aw that is sad. Maybe you guys can write letters and be penpals. It's hard to think about, but you will probably make new friends as well.

Just keep in touch with e mail since you posted this question I'm sure you got the internet but you'll meet someone else who is just as cool as your friend now and if you keep in touch you'll never be apart
