Misunderstood is a better word (much like nerds or geeks), every jock group has their jerks, unfortunately those few jerks end up representing the majority of that group; I know a lot of offensive linemen that are an interesting conversation

Nope. There are more athletes out there that possess greater intelligence than I do, (which after a night of drinking, can mean that they possess greater intelligence than my dog.)
Some are smart, some are stupid. A body builder I worked with was dumber than his 100# plates, an aggressive skater had a habit of outsmarting me and being a genuinely nice guy, and Sanders got how much to spend two seaons out with "turf toe" while hockey players were skating around on broken legs?
I wakeboard, which makes me a choad as far as the lake community is concerned. The Bad Religion, Crystal Method Mashup I like to hear when I'm riding might be a little much for the sailing crowd, I don't know.

All told, no. Am I jock? Probably not.
Some athletes are more intelligent than others. Unfortunately, entire regions and teams get known for a bonehead or two.
