Question: My boss handed out the christmas bonuses yesterday and he gave everyone a $10 gift certificate and a $5 gift certificate.
WTF. I know I work for a non profit but dam last year we receieved a whopping $25 in my first year.I assumed a little more this year.
Should I just give them back. They are for a stores I have never and will never go into.

Find someone that won't have a Christmas this year and give it to them. They will appriciate it no matter where it's from and you will get the good feeling from helping someone that's in need.

I hear you at my company party they gave out gift cards and everyone was swapping theirs for something else
it was funny and management got all pissy but wtf we all made a donation to our boss that makes 6 figures and he wants to give up some phuking gift card to some store that is not even around me..

Give them to someone that will shop at those stores. If you hand them back to your boss he might take it as an insult and in the long run thats not good. If hes insulted he might look for a way to get you fired.

You don't know how the profit margin was this year. Or what they may have on the books. Either way, the gift was a business decision. The choice could be to have given nothing.
I'd suggest giving the store a chance. Keep an open mind.
If all else fails, buy me something nice there.
Give them to someone else who will appreciate them.

I'd be pretty peeved, too! But giving them back would be a mistake, unless you're looking to change jobs in the coming year.
Give them to a charity - Goodwill, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, drop them in the donation box at church or synagogue or mosque (wherever).
Or - one last thought. Take a picture of the person who's responsible for the this debacle and tape it to the gift cert then burn them in effigy.
Give them away as gifts to someone.
