How and when is the word "semantics" used, and what does it mean?!

Question: Semantics is a term used to describe how certain words are used. If i say that its raining, and you say that its drizzling, it's basically the same thing, just a matter of 'semantics'.

1. Linguistics.
a. the study of meaning.
b. the study of linguistic development by classifying and examining changes in meaning and form.
2. Also called significs. the branch of semiotics dealing with the relations between signs and what they denote.
3. the meaning, or an interpretation of the meaning, of a word, sign, sentence, etc.: Let's not argue about semantics.

It means taking various definitions of a word and using one of those definitions in your aid or to your adavnatage to get your point across

It means that 2 words/phrases have the same exact meaning. For example, if someone says "I'm starving" and someone else says "I'm about to die of hunger"...that is just semantics.

well, more or less it means 'symbols andsigns' used by people everyday. like for example, heart represented by the heart shape and alsofor love. now, when you use it with ither communication theory, it takes on another form and meaning. try author Griffin in communication theories. =)

i don't know
