Does anyone here know anything about 'line breeding' and if it's saf!

Question: I do not breed dogs--I only have ONE dog and he's fixed. I just wanted to know WHY the AKC accepts line bred dogs when it seems to ME that its inbreeding.

The people in DOGS ripped me a new one for asking this there. Wonder why?

I dont really get the question, unfortunately, yet I will take a stab at answering.

I have no problem buying a pure-bred animal, in fact that is my preference. I am picky about the breeders though. I have 2 AKC registered Labrador Retrievers that are the best dogs I have ever owned and would never go to another breed. For obvious reasons if you know about the breed itself.

I will say that there are probably more than a few "Puppy Mills" out there that have their animals for one purpose and that is to breed them and make a few bucks on the side. This is cruel to the bitches if they do not rotate, that is, give them a year between litters, it also compounds the problem of genetic deficiencies being passed on to the next generation.

I will say that both of my little girls got fixed before their first cycle. There is an 80% less chance of them developing breast cancer if you have them fixed before their first cycle.

Don't breed with dogs

um sorry i can't help hun i know nohting about breeding dogs :-(

As a former dog breeder, I can tell you that the best place to get your answer is from AKC's website. They set the rules for the breeding process of dogs. They allow line breeding because it doesn't seem to affect the offspring. Inbreeding does however.

I agree the pup came out of that, now they are gonna enter again...

so wait did u say your brother is also your father making your mom your grandma twice over..... I'm confused

My dearest Valkyrie.... I have an answer for you. I asked a vet friend of mine and she said that it is in fact inbreeding and it is certainly "not" recommended.... you can have a lot of abnormalities, health problems, etc... I hope you have the answer you were looking for my dear.. :)

Is that like "pulling a train" on someone?
Because I'm getting a disturbing image of Warren Beatty in Deliverance.

eewww! I inbreed my rabbits though. I cant tell if rabbits are retarded or not. I think dogs are viscious if they get inbred.
