I for one am guilty of the excessive exclamation points attached to the abbreviated "Oh my God"...

*hangs head in shame*
Do you hate me now?
*chin trembles and eyes water*

Edit: LMFAO! "MAIMZ!"
as in causes extra bodily harm! I may have to use that...As a matter of fact...

it means extra extra extra excited; omg doesnt have the same excitement as OMG!!, it just makes it more exciting

No kidding. You would think they are peeing their pants or something.

    Maybe they are overly excited?!

    OMG!!!! U SUK! ITS KEWL!

    like, i don't know.

One may be MILDLY Oh my God by posting
    OMG
For MORE excitement, it's necessary to add the approriate number of '!' to fit the situation.
When Armageddon arrives, proper etiquette dictates one uses OMG ! ! ! with spaces so one can count the '!'

    wat dose MUAH`--mean expert`??

This is more evidence of the evolution of language because of technology, in this case the cell phone and text messaging language spilling over into everday life. I have studied English language extensively, have a PhD in it in fact, and am guilty of overuse of the exclamation point in connection with OMG. In fact, my daughter and I have variants on OMG, including OMFG and OMFGE - usually with an abundance of exclamation points. I think what's going on here is that we're frequently in situations where shouting out exactly how we feel might be inappropriate, so we use a plethora of exclamation points to convey our ecstatic/confused/angsty or other emotional state. Right now, at work, if you were to tell me that a Martian had landed on your head, I might be inclined to scream out, but since I work in an office which is crypt-like in its silence, I'd probably be forced to exclaim textually: OMFGE!!!!!!

    OMG LOL LMAO LMFAO IDK

    HE HE

really excited and to lazy to spell it out
