Absolutely, I have gotten upwards of 8 or 9 thumb's up at points but people wouldn't pick my best answer due to favoritism (people pick their contacts for Best Answer instead, or trolls were asking the question).

We do get a point for a thumbs up when we get the best answer to go along with it. But it would be nice to get the point anyway even if you don't get a best answer.

They used to do that, but, from what i understand, stopped the procedure in June of 2006
hell yeah... i've gotten enough thumbs up to last me forever... i wouldn't have to spend my time looking for stupid questions (this one isn't one of them lol) to answer if we did...

i agree with you. Giving positive feedback is good, but negative ones ( like taking away points) is always discouraging
I never have patience to look for thumbs up, but it is kind to appreciate someone else's answer especially if you have learned something. I am so ignorant I thought you did get a mark for a thumbs up, but I am very thick so listen to your other answers. xx

We only get a point for each thumbs up (up to a maximum of 50) for answers chosen as "best answer" and that's good enough. Otherwise, everyone would be "thumbs upping" all their friends and it's just a popularity contest.
I think you should get a point for a thumbs up, basically because it is probably the answer you would have given yourself. A thumbs down often deserves a loss of points because your peers consider it a stupid answer that somebody has thrown in to get two points. e.g. Q/ What is the extension lead called for the power supply? Ans. abc? And they get 2 points. When everybody knows it is a molex extension lead.
Ye otherwise it makes the whole thumb up or down thing irrelevant. However why people need points on this thing il never know. I just use it to find or give answers to stuff i or others need to know.

Most of the the ones I get are thumbs down. I have found you can not speak freely on this site. If someone doesn't like your question or answer they give you thumbs down. Cool, I can deal with that. But to have my answers deleated or my acct, deleated because someone doesn't like what I say. That's nuts. I don't swear on this site and I don't dog others but yet I have had to restart Q&A approx. five time in two years. To answer your question yes the thumbs part as far as points and so on is nice if they are monatored.

i do not think for each thumb up, but based on the total after the selection of best answer.... i think system at present works in same way.
