There's really no way of actually telling, which is very scary! Some people lie about being older while others lie about being underage. Just make sure you've had a few decent conversations via the Internet/telephone before you actually make any sort of plans with them.

I think the best method is to distance yourself from the simple high school questions or girly girl statements. I would refrain from any contact out of Yahoo answers and for goodness sake use a little common sense. It is OK if you want to give some advice to a young person in trouble or going through a hard time. It is your obligation to help people in need, but leave it at that.
You never know for sure but I ask and hope they tell the truth but still kinda careful what I say to who (usually anyway)
