I'd say the eastern side only b/c I'm uneducated on the western side and just going by the places I've visited.
well in New Jersey and New York, we hate everyone and don't care. Probably the mid-west is more friendly like Ohio, Pennsylvania and in California they are all brain dead hippies so they will probably be nice too lol

yes, america is like that too, and i don't even think it matters what part of the country you're in. every part has its friendly people AND its jerks. although i believe you could dig up some statistics/scientific studies on geographical locations vs. mood if you really wanted to.
I used to work at a market research company, so I always judged what cities were friendly based on the niceties of people I talked to. People in Ohio are incredibly nice, as are people in Pennsylvania. People in Florida can be nice, but we always had a rough time with Chicago and anywhere in California.
I lived in Kansas for a year and it sucked, they are so rude. All they cared about is themselves. I worked retail and if I was nice they acted like they were in shock. I came from Iowa where it seemed a lot more people were nice.

Americans in general are a good, friendly and hospitable people just as the English. Hostility comes in small groups or individuals and can be anyplace and anywhere.
Sadly world events in the middle east are making Americans suspicious of people of middle eastern decent.
I have traveled all over the U. S. and found that most states in America are friendly. There are area's with in the cities that are less friendly then other areas, but that is a neighborhood thing.
