Why would anyone keep a lock of hair in their pocket?!

Question: Perhaps in combination with a cross around their neck. I heard this from another contact's question and it was the first time I ever heard this. So I thought I would blow 5 points and get my curiosity satisfied.

My hair means more to me than anything else in the whole world, and I've never been compelled to do that. Actually, voodoo doll is the first thing that comes to mind and just recently I discovered that I might be a gypsy so maybe I should start.

to remind them of that person

Maybe its of a deceased loved one's.

Incase they go bald?

So they know what colour their hair is without a mirror?

I wouldn't have a clue.

I've no idea - if you can clean a hairbrush and harvest enough hair to knit caps for the entire population of Mongolia -
why?

I don't realy know. Maybe to remind them of the they love most and are seperated from.

Yes, as a memento of that person. Instead of the photo, hair or nails.

i have quite a collection of a few celebs i keep them in a locked box with the ears and fingers hmm might sell them on ebay

I'd keep a lock of my own hair in my pocket since it seems to all be faling out and I want to prove that I had hair at one point in my life

Well they also say they see and talk to angels so obviously they are crazy and you can't figure out anything they do

Just for the memory.. just a keepsake..

I suppose everyone might have different reasons for doing that. Maybe the person has passed away and they are carrying that to feel especially close to them. Or, in some cases there might be some superstitious reason. I don't know the answer to that one, but I do know that people carry all sorts of things for different superstitions they believe in.

I own an antique Bible from 1867. Inside are many mementos, including a lock of hair tied in a delicate ribbon. In this Bible, is indication that one of the sons died, and I think it was kept in his memory. As a child, my mother on occasion saved a lock of hair and put it in my baby book. All sorts of reasons why, but I imagine only the person carrying it knows the specific reason for them personally.

Because they are going bald and saving it til they can afford the transplant. Love, honey
