Why do people run to their car?!

Question: when it is raining or windy or cold. Doesn't that just make that certain element worse? The wind turns faster, the cold is colder cause you are running and causing cold air to hit you faster. Or the rain comes at you harder and faster.

A very good point...scientific studies have highlighted the fact that if you run in the rain you will become wetter than if you simply walked....a case in point being a pal of mine Mark, whose so skinny he HAS to run around in the rain to get wet.
Hope this helps, Steve. :)

most people would rather suffer slightly more for a shorter period of time then the opposite. A good simile would be getting a vaccination shot, would you rather them stick in the needle slowly (but the maximum pain is lower), or would you rather they just stab it in and get it over with?

No, it's better to run. Although it may come at you harder and faster, the longer you're in it, the worse off you'll be. Considering that the slower you move, the more exposure you'll have. Think about what happens to a person who moves at a brisk stride versus a person who moves an inch per hour. If you move an inch per hour, you'll get drenched or frostbitten. What if it's a forest fire? Between walking & running, I think running would be the safest bet.

That is very true but sauntering along in that kind of weather just don't feel right! Especially when you have the haven of a warm car waiting for you! I have been doing a mixture of walking and running to the car today. I have also stepped in an extremely deep puddle and fell over whilst running with my dogs!

I never run; I love the rain. And yes, it's retarded unless someone's coming after you.

You will get to your car faster which means you will dry off faster. Who wants to walk in the cold and rain and be cold. You will be cold and get wet. It is better to run and get a little cold and wet, than to walk and freeze and get soaked.
