Do you think obesity is really an "epidemic", or do people need to get!

Question: I think a big part has to do with self-control, and stop blaming everyone else, restaurants, jobs for lack of time to excerise, etc., on weight problems.

Answers: I think a big part has to do with self-control, and stop blaming everyone else, restaurants, jobs for lack of time to excerise, etc., on weight problems.

i think everyone big thinks its an epidemic. Everyone I know that is overweight, eats alot and doesnt exercise. Look at the biggest loser shows, all those people are obese, with diet and exercise what happens? They lose weight. Its not rocket science.

Just like Herpes is an "epidemic"

Sure, yeah....

No one's evvvvvvver said that before.

Thanks, Alexis w/ stars. Thank you on behalf of my "plus-sized" friends.

life is full of "epidemics"...education fails to see that truth!!

they are banning junkfood in school. they've gone too far.

Yeah people just want to get what they want and don't care about the consequences down the line.

don't be absolute. ever heard about "theroid" problems?? most people get fat because of eating too much and not exercising or whatever. but it is true that some forms of obesity are a sickness.

No self-control and very lazy and unmotivated

I'm with you. Much of the blame falls on the person who can't say "no" to fast food and who chooses the elevator to go up 2 flights of stairs.

I think a lot of it is self control, with the exception of those who truly have a medical condition that creates the obesity. If we all had a designated workout, and easy to follow daily meal plan, it would help several people get out of their fat suits.

i think ppl need to get up off their asses and stop eating...STOP blaming it on the babies, depression and etc,,,,STOP EATING

yes, but I just saw a clip on the news about part of the problem stemming from healthy food being much more expensive than junk food (w/ the ecomony being what it is today, people have to watch every $), so it's another issue to add to the obesity problem

I've never been obese, but I have been overweight. It's about choice and willpower. I love all the good, sweet stuff as much as anyone. But I know that if I eat it I'll gain weight. So I have to say no alot.
I hate to see those super-huge people in the supermarket riding around on the electric carts because they are too fat to walk. Then their basket is filled with fattening, processed junk. No veggies or chicken breasts in there. Sometimes they are even eating a bag of cookies while they shop. That's not a physical condition, it's poor choices.

i think are anatomy is also evolving.....alot of time medical conditions, genetic situations...i don't believe on blaming restaurants etc either....but in some situations it just happens....we are raised to eat 3 meals a day and actually don't need to...eating can be a disorder just like drugs etc...

it's not like the polio or the black plague, you can't "catch" obesity, i think they just call it that because such a HUGE percentage of Americans fall into that category! true, some people have health problems & they can't help it, but it's hard to feel sorry for an obese person (who you know doesnt have health problems) when you see them eating a big cheeseburger, extra large fries, and then oh, a DIET coke. please, everyone is able to exercise. it just seems like people forgot how!

Restaurants do serve portions that are enough to feed a family of four. But you don't have to eat it all. Yes, people need to get off their butts, exercise more, and quit eating so much. Yes, you do have to MAKE time to exercise. They are afraid to let their children go out and play. They are too lazy to walk anywhere. I see kids in Quik Trip in the mornings getting donuts and soda pop for breakfast. It is no wonder everyone is so fat.

I agree and believe you are on the right track. I also would like to suggest the possibility that there is a real problem with our food supply. In a way that cigarettes keep people addicted, I believe our foods have sugars in them that give people a rush. This means that people eat food and need more to feel like they are happy. I am not just talking about junk food either. Recently, I visited my parents and discussed organic foods with them. They said I was crazy for spending extra money on food. I then picked up a loaf of low-fat, low sugar bread they recently bought. I proceeded to read the ingredients list and to their surprise, it only took me about 5 minutes to mispronounce nearly 90% of the ingredients that were chemicals. I also thing there is the same problem with our produce with pesticides, and antibiotics with hormones in our meats.

I can go on and on, this is a complex situation, created by our FDA due to lack of control over the produce and food industry.

There is a way you can prevent it by watching what you eat in general by not eating fatty foods and sweets and getting regular exercise at a gym. It takes discipline. One who is obese should talk with a trainer at a gym or a physician and ask for suggestions or recommendations on what kind of diet or exercise should be done.

everything is set down these day; PC`s / video`s/ home theaters/ don`t even have to get up and answer the phone...your right it`s up to them ,get up, get out, enjoy life..

I totally agree. I like what Charles Barkley said in regards to a player with a weight problem.. "you need to learn two words "I'm full""

In response to above, a healthy diet is actually WAY cheaper than what most people stuff through their "pie hole". A good diet of grains, beans, vegetables and very little meat, as in about 3 or 4 ounce serving once a day is the best deal for a healthy diet
