Old IQ question, no math this time...?!

Question: I have a possible answer to this but I'm not sure.

An explorer is adventuring down the Amazon River and comes to a Y. One way leads to waterfall and almost certain death, the other is the way he wants to go, only problem, he has no idea which is which. There are two native tribes in the area; one tribe is incapable of telling the truth, it's just physically impossible for them to talk without lying. The other tribe is incapable of telling a lie, it's as equally impossible for them to speak without being blunt and speaking the truth. Problem is, they dress, speak and act identical. There's a native tribesman standing at the Y in the river. What is ONE question the explorer can ask him, not knowing which tribe he is from and know the correct way to go?

I believe the answer is: Which way do I, NOT want to go?

No I do not agree with your answer. The reason being because:
The lier will give you the direction with no waterfall.
The truth teller will give you the direction with the waterfall.

I think the right answer would be the same regardless.

Therefore, I think you would ask something along these lines;
"Which path would the other tribe tell me not to take."
The lier would say:
They would tell you not to take the safe way. (The path without the waterfall.)
The truth tellers would say:
They would tell you not to take the safe way. (The path without the waterfall.)

That way you could deduce the correct direction was the direction in which the tribe member says you should not take.

Therefore, you asked one question and got the right path :) If it was more than one question, you could do it an easier way like the other fellow at the top said. :) cheers

You need to ask a question like "is the sky blue" or "do we live on the earth" The liar will ultimately lie and say no, so you know what tribe he is from. The truth teller will tell the truth, no problem there.

My IQ is 0

I Agree

thats impossible!

actually, i believe you might be right.

You said one way leads to a water falls if he takes this he is going up the stream and he knows that way sense he knowes there is a water falls

incorrect. You pick one of the tribes any one. you say "if i was to ask the tribe next to you, should i go left, whould he say yes?" then you do the opposite of their answer.

if you picked the hosnest tribe and they said the other tribe would say yes, then that is because they know the other tribe are liars, meaning the answer is no. if the honest tribe told you no, its because they know the liars would say no, meaning it is the correct way.

if you picked the dishonest tribe, they know the other tribe would have been honest and say yes, so they are going to lie and tell you they would so no. Or vice versa

conmplicated i know, but u just have to think about it
