Why don't young people vote? Apathy? Or laziness?!

Question: Don't get me wrong, I'm 1 of those young people. But I just don't get why younger people don't vote? Since when was speaking up and giving your opinion dumb? So I figure the only reason they don't vote is either APATHY or jus pure unadulterated LAZINESS.

Younger people don't care about the world and the president, they only care when they're getting laid and what they look like.

(Keep in mind that may not apply to ALL of the younger people)

Some just don't care.

Intelligence!!

It seems futile, because of voter fraud.

ETA: I vote, in spite of voter fraud.

Yes...you're right. Some are apathetic. Some are lazy. Most just don't care to waste their time. I know with myself, I like to know that I had some input with what's going on. I always vote!

well, weren't not allowed to have american rights when were under 18, so why should we support america?

What is with blaming the worlds problems on the young people today? I know a lot of people 40-60 that dont take the time to vote either. A lot of young people just don't get into politics these days. Its not a concern on their list, maybe self-centered or more important things to do.

The fact that young people are discriminated as being "stupid" or "too naive". Age is nothing but a number, but some people fail to realize that.

They're not old enuogh to vote yet.

DUH! :-P

Pure "Apathy" and yes, "Ignorance" !!

I'm really too tired to think of a good response. But, more importantly, I really don't care.

I'm 20 and I do vote. Sometimes I don't want to but my grandma yells at me if I don't. haha. I think it's good to vote and be aware of what is going on society.
I do however base my vote off what I need at the time. Ever since I was 18 I always voted for whoever would do the most to lower tuition costs. College is insanely priced however I still see no decline in cost...So maybe my votes did go to the wrong person.

yeah

I think some people are afraid because they don't know how the polls work. I have told several people that the people at the polls will help them.

They do not believe that their vote matters, when in fact it really does.

Probably because none of the potential presidents are very good at the moment...

I think they are very busy, and have been socialized through school to think that their opinion does not count.

YO! im 13 i consider mi self young lolz i do vote and give mi opinion needed, wanted or not and bi tha way there r quiet a fey ppl on here tht r under 18!

I think its uneducated young people. All of the young people I know on college campuses are voting.

Apathy is one of the biggest problems in the US.

And I don't care!

because the electoral college has the final decision which pretty much cancels out the purpose in your vote.

They don't care enough about politics.

If they do vote - I think the person they vote for will be based off of their popularity (for example Obama has Oprah on his side right now - that's going to give the younger generation thinking he must be good) but they don't care enough to actually listen to his propose ideals for the country.

Yawn central for them.

i'm young,i vote,i rate.....

and i make great cookies

It's not just young people, my dear. The vast majority of the population never make any use of their right to vote at any time during their lives. Just watch the poll numbers as the elections draw near. Far less than half of the REGISTERED voters will cast a vote, and the registered voters are far less than half of the public that is eligible (but unregistered) to vote. Sad fact, and sadly true.

How is that?...so because I've never voted that makes me lazy? that's rediculous. To be quite honest I haven't had the opportunity to vote yet but when the time comes, I will not vote purly due to the fact that I don't follow polotics. When & IF someone that I do not like comes into office, I will not have the right wo complain about it because I did nothing to keep them out of office.

Very observant. When I voted in Michigan's primary the other day, I asked the volunteers if many young people had voted. This was early evening. They started laughing. They said no.

Some do, the ones that don't just don't have a strong sense of responsibilities yet and probably it hasn't been an important issue in their home as they were growing up. Often we are products of our environment whether we realize it or not.
