When I read some things that people write I wonder if they are really that mean in their everyday life or do they use this site to vent.

I always answer to the best of my ability, which, to some, may not be much. But, hey, it's the truth at least.
i think so. we feel safe behind the computer screen. we can say what we really feel. be it offensive or ignorant. unlike in real life there are no real consequences.
i suppose some people just post to rile others up though.
I think you are totally right. The anonymity is their shield & they feel they can step out of their normal way of relating.
Oh they definitely use the anonymity on this site to vent. Here's an example of what they would say on here they never would in real life:
1. You're an idiot and should go kill yourself.
2. I look exactly like a model.
3. Black people suck.
I would dare them to say this in real life.

I think some of them possibly are. There are two people on the genealogy forum they are really nasty towards the British and I don't think they should be allowed to getaway with it.
i think many of us use our true side......
I think that for some they feel like since they are behind a key board and no one can really do anything they can say whatever they want to. I doubt they could live life acting like that without difficulty, but for others sadly they are just jerks.
I think a lot of the people on here act the way they do because noone knows who they are and they can be whoever they want to be and not get judged or have any consequence.. In real life I doubt they would never say the same comment they say on here!!
anonymity, in the security of your own home with no repercussions to yourself, I'd say yes. Very disturbing, isn't it?
Even if they act the opposite in "real" life, it is how we are when noone's looking that reveal who we truly are (to ourselves anyway)
i think they are showing their true colours for sure!! its hard not to show meanness in person,if thats the way you are, but who could be mean and nasty when your'e just sitting at your computer reading questions? im at home,relaxed and i think if they can be that mean through here,it must be a natural element in their personality makeup...i appreciate the good advice and answers on here and ignore the crap...
I show my true self here. I feel less judged on here. I feel like one of a crowd. I don't know anyone on Y!A, so why should I pose as someone I'm not?
good question. i think many of us do show what we really think about things. but because we are not face to face with a person and we-ll probablu never meet anyone here we can show what we think and put some emotion in our answers without worrying.
there is also some poeple that just wanna provoque and get a reaction with their answers, istn′t probably what the perarson really mean.
some others just give a technical answer so they can win points, so they don′t show any soul in their answer.
