why are they not all required to show amounts per 100 grams?
if i want to compare one product with another, they have to have a common system between them, ie: per 100g, so i can see the difference in nutrients expressed as a total percentage of the product.
is it americans who seem to have trouble with this simple concept---as i seem to regularly see ebay auctions that provide this useless "per serving" information, and they almost all read like american sellers or products.

They do this because by showing the nutritional value per serving leads the reader to view the product as having less fat, calories, etc than per 100g (because people typically eat less than 100g, especially in the case of snack type foods). In fact per serving is often misleading because people often eat more than a typical serving. Take for instance, breakfast cereals, people typically have more than a 25g serving.
I think it should be a requirement to show the nutritional content per 100g because like you say it is easier to compare and also it is not hard to then work out the nurtritional value per serving once you know how big your portions are.

there as to be `base `figures so that like for like can be compared .i don`t think it`s just US products.
I hate the way they tell you how large a serving is as well ... like 142.456372g
I want to be able to eat as much I feel I need to, so yeah i see what you mean.
