Are americans foolish enough to believe that they can prosper, and avoid the hug!
Question: ....are they even more deluded than europeans to think that science is going to magically sweep the problems it creates back under the carpet......or is it just that, in the home of rapacious capitalism, where self esteem is so tied to the dollar...that hell will freeze over before americans do anything that might damage their [short term] economic supremacy.....even if it means whole countries are at risk of obliteration by rising sea level?
i watched a billy connolly video the other day, and in it he jokingly asked [of his new york audience] "are you aware that Other country's exist?!
for a supposedly religious country, they seem a pretty amoral selfish bunch....and they cant seem to understand why large numbers of the earths inhabitants hate them...

I hear what you are saying. I think people are reacting to the angry tone. You are right about Billy Connolly's statement. Most American never leave the states for long periods of time. never experience other cultures or ways of thinking. We are not a smaller country in Europe surrounded by other countries..easier access or influence of them. i think that is a shame. I think that is why most Americans may believe the American way is best. As for the way we come off. It's like any outrageous minority. The people who are out there and selfish don't let them be the judge for the entire country. And things /belief also change depending on where you live in America. For myself ( I live in the New England States) I know in my area people are extremely conscious of global warming. I don't know of any family that hasn't stopped buying water in bottles or started using green friendly cleansers. Anytime i've gone to the supermarket more and more people are using their own shopping bags. I know big deal a lot of the damage has been done. Americans are willing to make sacrifices. We do care about the world. I wish in this global world mare were effected by the sufferings of other countries that not only had we maybe a part in but to recognize how we can aid. I hope you will see beginnings of that . Don't be angry at all of us. There are a good many who are angry with our the groupof American you are!!! The good guys are still here too!

Global warming is a myth there is not enough data as far as recorded time to really know what the earth weather patterns are really supposed to be. I mean, how do you know it didnt use to be summer time when its was winter time 3 billion year ago.
It's irritating how often you see people who simply don't understand the subject, but will continue to voice there opinions. I took a course in meteorology over the summer and I learned that if you're not properly educated on the subject, you don't understand it, period. We're now breeding these neo-environmentalists who are just following the crowd. Like I said before, it's irritating.

by the way i live in texas and i live in austin. The like greeniest large city in america. Other citys like houston. los angeles and so on. that are huge have air problems and such from huge bussines. then again those citys are highly industrialized. Austin is a high tech city. and we have allot of laws on were you can build. we dont have billboard stuff everywere either. We also have allot of enviormentlaislt.
Americans are the most sensible of all peoples--If you environmentalist whackos can provide irrefutable, undeniable, empirical, honest to god, clear as day, EVIDENCE of global warming not theoretical estimates, suppositions, predictions, and manufacted pictures propagandizing nature in action to support a hoax--we will be your most ardent supporters.
Well, I can't speak for all of America, but my family has done whatever we can to try and make our house more ecologically friendly. America has the reputation for being self-centered and bigoted, but you're making generalizations; for all of the Americans who do know that global warming is happening, do know there are other countries in the world, and are tying to do their part to make this world better you are being really unfair. Every country has immoral and selfish people, including yours. America may have it's faults, but we still do a hell of a lot of good in some respects, so how about you just do your part in helping out the world, and stop being so rude.

Bring it down to a personal level, where you can do something about it. Start at home. recycle, do the green thing buy a hybrid. I for one don't believe all the alarmist propaganda. I believe we are in a cycle of global warming but we didn't cause it. We are not morally decaying this too is a cycle. Economic supremacy and capitalism everyone in every country wants.
