If you're heterosexual there isn't much of a problem there. I don't understand what the problem is? I think you mean something else like homosexual.
Drop it casually into a conversation over dinner. SOmething like:
"Could you pass me the salt. By the way I'm straight. Can you pass the gravy too?"
It may be a shock to some of them, but I'm sure they'll accept your heterosexuality.

well, in that case i would suggest telling them casually, or not at all, because at this point, i think that the friends and family have already been through the original shock, and will be okay with whatever gender the person chooses.
I'm pretty sure they already suspect. In my experience, people are usually assumed heterosexual until told otherwise.

How funny is that !! Isn't it sad though, to realize, that if things keep giong "this way", we may be trying tell our families we are "heterosexual" ?
