All the time, there are still nice folks out there. When I was younger it was because I was very pretty and classy. Now it's because I've hit that "certain age". Of course the cane helps folks see I'm disabled as well.
I'm also not above telling some kid to decamp where he/she is to let someone else who needs to sit there. Never had a complaint. Most people will be kind if they have a tiny nudge.
