Do you think they should raise the legal driving age?!

Question: I don't think 16 years olds shouldn't be allowed to drive without a responsible licensed driver over the age of 21...hell, maybe even 18. I think they are too excited showing off in front of they're little snot nosed friends, changing CDS, MP3s or radio stations, texting, dialing and calling on their cells...they're just all over the freakin place!!!

Hi Alex. Some good questions you're asking. I do think that 16 may be a bit young to be able to drive without supervision, and especially to drive with other teenagers in the car. Here in central New York state, we've had a number of horrible accidents involving teenage drivers in which several teens were killed - one apparently because the girl who was driving was also attempting to text message someone on her cell at the same time. Four lovely young ladies died. Another involved a teen male driver with three other teen boys in the car, tearing around on their lunch break from school. They'd had a digital recorder running in the car, and from the taped remarks heard afterwards on the device, the driver was showing off how he could "catch air" driving very fast over a small hill. He did it once too often, lost it and hit a tree. All four boys died.
Young people WILL always find ways to break the rules - but tighter controls and closer supervision will certainly cut down on the frequency of such horrible accidents. As far as the age at which it should be allowed - I've known twenty-somethings who were just as irresponsible as 16-year-olds. I don't think raising the legal age at which one can drive will make that much difference if not accompanied by other controls as well.

Then you'll just end up with a bunch of inexperienced 18-year-old drivers who suck as bad as 16-year-olds.

I agree!! they should!

NO. If we all had that opinion, no one would be driving until age 25.

The problem with that is, most 16 year olds have jobs now and/or are in sports so its almost impossible for them to rely on their parents for rides everywhere, especially if a family has two or more teenagers, all with different jobs and activities.

I don't think they should raise it from 17.. Come on, then everyone will be even less experienced..

yup

amen sista you go girl. I think they need to cancel cellphones for teenagers that are driving and they need to make sure that the parents have a break on there side when they are sitting up front so if the kid is driving bad or other stuff like that the parent can hit there break and stop the car.
Good question and I'll star you for this one.

For some pepale I know YES!!! LOL

I have also seen many adults who are immature and irresponsible on the road, so it is NOT all about yound drivers.

Yes

yes Ma'am they should

Just because kids have busy lives doesn't mean they need a drivers license. If I was scared of the dark could I get a concealed weapons permit? No, it makes no sense to base an argument on a kids need to drive. I have always felt that there should be an incentive, nationwide, that if you carry an A letter grade average for one year you can get your license at 16, less than an A average student can wait until 18. If a student is willing to put forth effort and show academic responsibility then they should be rewarded. I bet it would seriously raise the bar nationally. Furthermore, if a child drops out of school their license should be suspended until 18, and any wreckless driving or felonious charges should immediately suspend their license. Driving is a privilege, not a right. Reward only those proving their responsibility to society.

no
