Poll: Are you tired of these movies too?!

Question: I am worried I may bet slammed for saying this but who cares! I am so sick and tired of these phony “lets save the ghetto kids” type movies. I work with troubled kids I am a teacher and trust me it is a difficult, grueling and time-consuming process. But movies will try and make the general population believe that teaching them to swim or play drums or write stories will rescue them from certain destruction! This is so far from the truth. So when 90% of our students in RTC’s don’t go on to be senators and doctors people wonder why we are not doing our job. It sickens me. I work with kids who have been abused both physically and sexually. Kids who have seen their parents in gangs or as drug addicts or worse killed. Kids who themselves may be addicted to drugs. These are extremely troubled youth and turning their lives around is a long process involving many caring and compassionate people.

You're right these Hollywood movies are simplistic and smugly self-righteous, they don't deal with the core issues of why these kids are struggling and it is the poverty and crime in their neighbourhoods and families.

You're doing a thankless job, but it is critically important for these kids and the communities they live in. Keep it up.

what about credit for the kids who do make it...they deserve a huge pat on the back.
it is up ti the kids to want to break the cycle, and not want to be like their parents...i did

Im tired of hollywood spending millions of dollars on CGI and making a crappy movie. Id rather have no CGI and a good story than another Transformers movie....seriously that movie blew.

Yes. I'm tired of Hollywood. They do some good in terms of getting a message out and showing the human side to an important issue. But like you said, there is this side too that is actually quite destructive and not just to people like you. I think it sets up false expectations and makes it seem like hard work isn't necessary. Look how easy they make it look.

Right there with you. Agreed.

Problem is, tugging on the heartstrings and happy endings bring in money, so these movies will not stop.

Nobody ever said "feel good" movies were based on reality.... lighten up before you have a stroke or something.

I agree that Hollywood does not have a clue about what really happens in real life. I am sick of Hollywood formula movies anyway. Good luck with your work.

I agree with you the system cannot save all the kids out there
but they are trying... & wasn;t that movie with Swank in it based on a true story?? sorry I never saw the film

I agree, there are a few too many, producers need to think of some new movies. There's too many dance movies and too many of those damn parody movies coming out. We need more zombie flicks!

stop your verbalwrittenbelching!!
please!!

I agree with you, it's always the same old thing over and over again, and it's getting very old. It's like how many times can you interpret a certain plot??

Hollywood needs new creative and unique writers who are willing to go out on a limb.

I could not agree with you more. People just have to realize that movies are not truth. They churn out so many of these silly movies.

this type of movie is aimed at the upper range of the middle and higher class. Makes them feel good that they can see the poor people getting a quick fix......its a shame too -cuz if everybody really thought about all the hardships some folks go thru-on a daily basis--I think people would be more willing to go the distance.

Misguided......is anything in Hollywood portrayed realistically? It's the movies...it's feel good, it's not about reality, however much it misrepresents, it's what sells tickets.

Like every other movie that comes out of Hollywood...it is meant for entertainment and nothing else. True some of these movies have "fairy tale" themes and as you mentioned could not be further from the truth, but they are not trying to teach society anything...they are simply trying to entertain society enough to cover the inflated price the ticket and the popcorn. The real educators are the people like yourself so as discouraging as it may seem at times believe my that you are appreciated. Keep fighting the good fight

Your question made me think of a quote by the late great Gilda Radner. It went something like this.....It's human nature that when we go to the movies or read a book at the end we like everything wrapped up (like a gift) with a nice pretty bow on top. In real life that's not how it works.
