True story: I used to have a squirrel that lived in my front yard that I would feed bread ends to. I didn't feed it for a few days and it actually knocked on my door. I stopped feeding it for awhile after that. Squirrels shouldn't be that needy.

But if I was sleeping and my hypothetical man's squirrel woke me for anything ... I'd tell him to go take a running jump .. either that or a hot shower. lmao!!
Get him the coffee and split the bagel with him. I'm sure you two could use some "sit down" time. Maybe find out what's causing the insomnia.
