Basic = Classic
Trendy = usually overpriced, good for a season or two and everybody will wear it on the same given day.

I have the basic stuff. I used to be REAL trendy when I was younger but now that I am old (60) I go for what will last but continue to look good and for comfort.

basic, the trendy stuff is for teens, and I feel completely stupid in some of those trendy things. Especially the newest trend of having those weird poofy sleeves that poof at the elbow, who thought that one up?

I have more basic pieces of clothing. I tend to buy one or two trendy pieces a season that are made well and can be mixed with the basics I already own.
I have a couple of trendy things but I try to stay basic for my credit cards sake.
I would say both... depends on my mood. I dress up a little everyday. I don't own any t-shirts, so I am more like a casual mom.... but I wear cute casual clothes.

I practically have only basics, like you know, jeans, blouses and some tanktops...trends change every year anyway and i don't have the money to go with them so I buy timeless-clothes that i can wear always and everywhere. Besides, I'm still growing a little so it doesn't make sense to buy those completely overpriced clothes...I just add some of my personal style by using scarfs or combining a blouse with a tanktop- looks good and comes for half price!
more of basic... they stay for such a long time & are cheap (some are hand-me-downs). I have trendy pieces, but I always have to think hard when & where to use them & with which shoes, & stuff like that...
