Black roses would be rare and therefore beautiful. Cabbage is edible so people smell it all the time, just a plant smell. I'm sure "Nightmare Before Christmas" weddings would have dyed white roses to be black and it would commemerate a beautiful event, even if it smelt like a vegetable :)

I don't know, I like black better than red, and some people must like the smell of cabbage because they eat the stuff (disgusting) so maybe, I do know a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet, Shakespeare told me that.
