Thank you MARC??? Why some people JUST forget where there inspiration comes from!!
I happen to know this song by true meaning:
King David and God have made this pact, which David breaks upon seeing Bathsheba in her bath atop her roof. To his great surprise, he suddenly falls in love with her, and breaks his pact of RESPECT with God. So through Bathsheba, the lovely Queen to be, God makes David REALIZE THE MAGNITUDE of his ERRORS, as I KNOW WELL, some other people should!!!
Well, Bathsheba shows David THE POWER, mind you, that
GOD HAS GIVEN Women over them Which is of course the power of Bewitching...So David in his weakened state, as we all know, is so crazily in-love withe the beauty that he sends, her husband to war so to be killed. This is the pivotal moment to say the least, Through the power God has given her, (which of course SOME women realize has always been theirs!) she subjugates the King into befuddlement,
and into marrying the beautiful temptress...which of course under Hebrew law become a crime of adultery, For she is ALREADY married to the sod, out there in the warring fields,
and YES, he does get killed.
So, Bathsheba and David bear a son, and have a marriage plagued with God's wrath.
David, in his desperation, appeal's and appeals to God, but the Hebrew God, is not yet Jesus, the Son. This God of the First testament, is mean, and unforgiving...so David (the King!) writes a bunch of lovely psalms during this time of TRIAL, One of them of course is my favourite : the 23rd! "I shall not want?"
And God eventually forgives David, because of course he was after all, a Great king, and God Himself, was ONLY too familiar with the fancying of women...(Eve, if you don't mind)
Mr. ARTFUL DISC JOCKEY/Bar tender Extraordinaire..., and so he only causes David to go through terrible SOUL searches, and humility, atonement fall sincerely upon him, until the day he sees the error of his doings, which of course was another frame up, from the Deity up in Heaven, (I am Buddhist, therefore not a Theist!) and can say that, since I believe it!, And Thusly : Rufus Wainright, wrote the feelings of anguish God made him feel, for having disobeyed HIM and fallen instead for a most beauteous women, now David's also plagued queen, for they lose their beloved son, which is the final sum, these two mortals have to pay in full to God. And after that...well, they go on to live Happily ever after...since that's the end to all Fairy Tales, and this One may be just another one!
However, Wainright the composer of this most soul penetrating song, was truly inspired by his MUSE, when he wrote it. Because...well...just listen to it, if you happen to have the "ears". For not everyone can gather the heavenly, the divine of realization from COMPREHENSION! Now can they???
