well I was raped as a child and didn't know what was happening since I was too young to know...so that doesn't really give a good example.
however at 17 I was almost raped and was lucky enough to get the guy off me. this is what I did, I definitely fought back, when he had my hands above my head and I couldn't get them loose, I used my knees to kick him in the man berries, and try to get him off of me that way (he had me against a wall), just as he was trying to get my pants undone (thank god for a crazy belt that is very complication and often would get stuck) I was able to get him somewhat more off me and then my cell phone rang which scared him off a bit since I had my phone in my hand and could easily push a button to answer. which I did.
I say if a man is trying to rape you definitely fight back. You don't deserve to have a man take away all your rights just because he's a pig. Definitely scream and try to make a big scene so someone will help.
But more than fighting a man off, you need to protect yourself from being in a situation where rape could occur. Never walk alone at night or after you've been drinking. Never leave your drink unattended. Never trust a man that you don't know 100%, Be very upfront with men- if you have no intention of sleeping with them- don't tease them because then they're getting the wrong idea.

Shove your finger, thumb in his eye, yell, knee him in the groin. Also, best way to get away from someone who grabs you from behind around the neck is to push your chin down to your chest so they can't hold on and run like hell and yell.
