Yes go. I mean you are not obligated to cover for someone else. Just as long as you work your scheduled hours. You told them that you couldn't work because you were going to be busy. That is not a lie. You will be busy shopping.

I wouldn't go in, because it seems like you have free time on your hands. I would go to another store or wait until another day to buy it.
Yea if you said you couldn't come in and you show up to buy something that's not good at all. They'll know you lied and that could possibly jeopardize your job and/or their trust in you. Im sure its other stores that have what you want right?...or it could wait till the next day.
