What did Jack Nicholson mean..when he said he " warned " Heath Ledger !
Question: I was reading an article about Heath Ledger and a comment was made by Jack Nicholson that said he " warned " Heath Ledger about playing the part of the JOKER on the new BatMan Movie. I don't get it.....what did he warn him of ?? Jack Nicholson played the part as well several years ago...what am I missing here ??

all that was reported that he said was he warned him. there were no specifics. the guy's dead, leave him be.

*edit* an actors job is to emote, and literally become the character for a time. One can thoroughly exhaust themselves when consumed in the role they are playing. It's very draining, physically, emotionally and mentally. It can completely wipe you out, depending on the severity of the role and how much you consume yourself with the part. The character of the joker is not all that morbid or morose, but it is a twisted character. I am doubtful the character had anything to do with the statement.
in any case, the man is dead. let him rest in peace. it's all irrelavant now. it won't bring him back. let it go, please.
*edit* no, i am not/wasn't a "fan". I am not a "fan" of anyone. Actors/celebrities are people like everyone else. The only difference is the paycheck.... and social status. Just leave it alone, okay.
I don't know but maybe he was talking about personal experience since he played the joker before
I thought his warning was about Heath doing drugs not playing the Joker.
The Joker is such a dark and sadistic character, and if you are a character actor, it will start to take you down.
A premonition perhaps.
Maybe playing the part takes its toll on you. Some actors pour their whole being into their work and when the cameras stop rolling its still very much a part of them. The greatest at the craft never totally forget the character. Playing a dark role and watching someone play one can both haunt you for years. I've watched movies and the story, acting,etc. stayed with me for a long time. Some influence positively and some negatively.

Jack Nicholson, at the time was pissed off because he wanted the part again! The producer asked Heath Ledger!!
Well the thing with acting is as an actor, in order to play your role well, you kind of have to put yourself into the role your playing. So being Joker must be difficult because you would have to have his type of mind-set. I mean when acting, you have to BE that person, and Joker is pretty deranged so having to do that MUST be difficult so i think that's what Jack ment about "warning" him about playing that part.
well, as you know it, Jack played Joker years ago. he knows playing this character can be depressing, as the character is pretty, well, mad. and it could consumed the person who plays the character.
so he warned Heath that it could be quite depressing. that the character could just follow him around. you know, like when you're give total comprehension to a character for a play, you just keep thinking about him/her.
