Yes, it has happened a few times. I learned about this in truck driving school - it is due to what is called microsleep. You are functionally awake, but part of your brain goes to sleep and when it comes to, you look around and say "What the......?" It is an early sign of fatigue.

Yes it happens to me al the time. I will be driving along and then out of nowhere iv done an hour of driving that i dont even remember. Bit scary huh. I guess tha brain just goes on autopilot. Lucky theres sumwun else up there hey, playing with the controls!!!

I admit I daydream from time to time, but I have never experienced anything that bad. Have you been on the Ambien/drug cocktail? I have heard some sleeping pills when taken with other drugs can make you sleep walk or even drive while sleeping. Scary!!!
