Well they had to cut the cord to separate us from our mothers. We wouldn't want mum to be hanging onto us forever would we.

That is where you were attached to the umbilical cord. They cut the umbilical cord away from the placenta when you are born - tie it off and leave it to dry up and fall off. Your belly button is proof that you are human and were born from your mother.
