What do people mean when they say "there's an elephant in the room"!

Question: call me immature, but i thinks its funny

Answers: call me immature, but i thinks its funny

its like if there is a big issue and everyone knows it but no one's acknowledging it. if you had a huge argument with a friend, and the next time you saw her you pretended everything was fine, this would be an example of an elephant in the room. you both know it happened but you're just ignoring it.

like theres something that needs to be said

something really obvious that everyone notices, but they may be trying to ignore.

i think thats what it means.

Its when sometihng is very obvious, yet noone talks about it in order to avoid stepping on anyone's toes.

I think it means that your in an uncomfortable situation that you want to get out of but can't. Hope I helped.

rofl ermm a fat person is present

something needs to be said. lol

It means someone, probably you, has made a bit of a pooh - and the poor old heffalump gets the blame!

There's somrthing obvious that needs to be said but no one says anything.

There's a HUGE issue that is obvious to everyone, but they're awkwardly trying to ignore it.

probably means that theres a fat person in the room

there are things that need to cleared up or solved....but no one wants to talk about it.

it means that there is an obvious thing going on

There old lady taking a nap

Ya, it is funny..LOL. I think it refers to an uncomfortable situation...and there is a heavy weight in the air bearing down on everybody. Like when a couple is fighting in front of people, and accusations or secrets are flung around openly...it feels like there's a big huge elephant in the room. That's the best way I can describe it.~weird phrase :)

It means, look for a large grey animal and hide the peanuts.

If it's in India then be very worried since there might actually be an elephant in the room!

If they say there's a pink elephant in the room then you just walked into the local psychiatric hospital.

Elsewhere, not sure, but probably means they're watching the QI TV program if their in the UK.
