Is this out of line or not?!

Question: A relative of mine has a stepson. The kid has been given a project called "Flat Stanley." It's basically a paper doll. It was sent to me without prior consultation, and I'm asked to take him places and get pictures, then send him on to the next person on the list.

Why am I obligated to do Precious Snowflake's project? If I'd been asked in advance, I'd have declined.

Am I out of line if I just heave it into the trash? I figure it'll be a more important life lesson ("ask if you want a favor"), plus it's just not my deal.

I like Buddy Christ's answer.
It WAS a little presumptuous but if it were me, I would take the pictures. I like taking pictures and I like helping kids out. I would definitely be creative with it. In fact, this question just gave me a great idea!

this reminds me of when I took my grandma's urn before the funeral and took pics around town with it. She sure gets around.

Don't do it. If they complain...tell them to 'suck it'.

i hate it when that happens, toss it, that'll learn em

just send it on to the next person if you're not going to take the dang pictures. it's the non douche-bag thing to do

you should let them know you are not gonna fo it. then send the project back.

Don't do it.

just send it to the next person without taking the picture if you dont feel like doing anything with it

HOLD IT FOR RANSOM AND TAKE A PICTURE OF IT IN THE TRASH! You're not obligated and you are not out of line! I'm a big fan of "ask first" or at least give me a heads up.

I would throw it in the trash!!

lol...That's funny. I'd probably just send it back to him if I didn't want to do it, and tell him to ask next time. Say you're not interested in doing it, and he will learn the lesson that you mentioned...to ask if he wants a favor.

Same thing happened to me you just get a post card from your area write a sentence or two and send that to his/her school and send stanley to someone whom you dislike. I would e rude to trash Stanley, the point of the project is to begin the perception of six degrees of separation you would stunt that by trashing stanley.
When you finally do it it takes about fifteen minutes just be nice its not a favor its just plain politically correct

i have heard of that
its supposed to be like a teaching tool or something...i donno
i wouldn't throw it out tho
just dont take the pictures and send it to whoever

I would do it but have fun with it. Take him to a strip club, bong hits in a back alley, getting hammered at a bar, etc. be creative.

Well, how old is the kid? If he's little, go with it, if he's a teen, toss it. There's a reason we do stuff like this for little kids.

stepchildren u cant win cause your in the middle and no ur not out of line

Maybe it's time for Stanley to get a makeover before you send him along to his next stop. I think the biker look would work well on him. Maybe a fu man chu and a couple of tats.
