We have 18 hens so we always let them free-range in our side yard which is fenced (so they are protected from stray dogs and other animals). We have lost one in the past due to a hawk, but only once. My husband will barely eat store-bought eggs anymore. We've had the chickens for about 3 years now.

free range, cage free, and organic. It's a bit more expensive, but I feel better that I'm not consuming something that is likely to harm me.
