How has your life deceived you?!

Question: Good mornin' Buk!

You know ... I don't believe life deceives us at all. We deceive ourselves ~ and allow others to deceive us. I ~ though far from perfect ~ believe that my life has been a direct result of my attitude. I live by the Charles Swindoll quote: "Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it." We are powerless over what life sometimes hands us and what others choose to do to us ... but we are NEVER powerless over how we choose to react to those circumstances. I have had hard times like everyone else, but I refuse to let them hold me down or keep me back because I am in charge of my destiny ... I will not allow any one person or thing to take that away from me.

Being a single mom with no real help from my family I went back to school to finish not only my Bachelor's degree ... but also earned my teaching credential ... and most recently a Master's degree ~ with straight A's ~ in the process. There were some tragedies in between (most recently the loss of my father at only 61 years of age) ... but I pick up the pieces and move on because dwelling on these "deceptions" won't help in any way and they certainly won't solve any of my problems.

If I choose to think that "life deceives" me then there is no point in fighting back. It isn't life that deceives us ... it's our own negative thoughts and actions that are the biggest deceptions of all.

Peace to you my friend ...

  • Optical illusions.....

    It didn't

I thought I was a fairy and then found I was really a troll.....

that a good question.... i wish i could pinpoint it

People are not who they seem to be...

    oh good question!
it made me promises it didn't keep
lured me down the road filled with hope only to let me down... too many times.
so... that's how life has deceived me.

    backstabbers

    only in a good way...

    no i have deceived life

I really thought I was a good bloke, as time goes on however,
I see myself as the ratbag, I must always have been.

Oh no Buk...I am NOT going to get drawn into your thought provoking questions this time..

    uh uh..nope...not a frickin' chance..I don't wanna think today..

    Sigh...

You don't have time to read my list anyway..

No, Life hasn't never deceived me....

that there is a grand purpose to it all (well, still not sure about that one)!.....or that everything happens for a reason....i hate that expression already! not that it may not be true, but i mean who really knows for sure?? it's just said as an (feeble) attempt for comfort

They told me good thing come to those who wait ... I've been waiting for more than 30 years now and nothing good came up. What do I do?

    Keep something back.

    False promises

Fortunately, I was taught at a very young age.. to have a "reality check" every 3,000 miles or every six months (whichever comes first) to avoid "deception" and so far it's been to my advantage to stick to it. I'm cruising along life's bumpy road pretty smoothly...

Life does not deceive. We deceive ourselves.

It presented so many roadblocks an obstacles that I failed to see until just recently that those hurdles were my life

Not really life itself, but the people in it have & do deceive me.

i keep waiting for that wisdom and maturity that comes with age

Oh I'm much better at deceiving myself than life is. Life has always been pretty straight forward...maybe not nice, but the signs have have always been there for me to read.

I suppose you could call my style myopic perception...;p

Nothing worked out according to my Master Plan!

the myth that if you live a good life, take care of yourself, eat the right food, don't drink, stay away from drugs and exercise, that you will live a long healthy life.

    Lies...all bullshit!

    *twirls hair and snaps gum*
Did you know those credit card people expect you to PAY them?

Some people I chose to be with were liars or cheaters... deceived myself, I let them in my life.

    << Wears rose coloured glasses.

It pantsed me once in front of the whole conference staff =/

Life told me I could do nothing and be rich ,handsome and happy what a liar.

I forget that there are folks that are born liars and cheats..that not everyone is basically good, that there are bad people and that no matter what you try and do for them that they will remain that way. Wish everyone was taught and believed that we should treat others as we ourselves wish to be treated.
